Apparently my oldest daughter thinks she’s
in charge when I am not home. Last night at the dinner table I was telling my husband the kids do not need brownies,
cream sticks, and glazed donuts all in one day. This was the
end of the conversation:
Dad: Bette told me to. She
IS in charge you know.
Me: She is?
Dad: That’s what she said.
(Mimicking Bette’s voice) ‘When Mommy isn’t home I’m in charge as the
little mommy.’
Me: Bette? Did you really say
that?
Bette and Dad at the same time: But I – That’s not what –
told me – I didn’t – he was –
Me: Wait, wait, wait – I can’t understand
either of you. Bette?
Bette:
All I said was that the alpha female is in charge of the alpha male - and
when the alpha female leaves the next older female gets to be in charge.
You (pointing at me) left so that made me in charge as the
next alpha female.
Me: Hahahahaha!! So we’re
wolves now?
{{Crickets
chirping}}
Dad: I told you she said she was in charge
when you leave.

This wolf pack is not my family. But if it was, I'd be the 2nd
wolf from the left that looks like it's laughing at the others.
So Bette saw an opportunity here to take charge. What's wrong with that? A girl gotta try, you know. ;) I wonder where her name came from, though. Because it seems to fit her very well. I laughed so hard at this. Thanks Ardie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading. Bette had pretty good logic, if we were in fact dogs or wolves ;D There are times I need to remind her who the real alpha female is though, she has such a strong personality.
ReplyDeleteBette isnt my oldest daughter's real name. Oddly, her real name is a shortened form of my real name...so maybe she is the little mommy hahah!
Well, obviously you have some real respect and admiration for yourself to give your daughter a shortened form of your own name. Which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAs for her personality, you know you'd better be prepared, cause when she is a teen she might be a lot more assertive. Gosh, I'd love to have a daughter like that! Anyway, I read your blog so I know it's not her real name. In fact, 'Bette' is one of my favorite English names, and I don't know that it's very common.
Making Bette my junior was totally by accident :D And please dont remind me that she'll be a teenager soon! That will be all new territory. I dont know where I got the name Bette but I love it too - it sounds strong.
ReplyDeleteOh, I see. I hope I'm not getting on your nerves. I was asking, because of my favorite TV show, which is the L word. Two of the main characters are called Bette and Tina, and coincidentally, Bette is also a domineering personality and an "art freak". It's not a kid-friendly show, but I recommend it.
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't get on my nerves! You're my biggest (and only) fan :D I've never seen the L word but I will look up some clips on YouTube shortly.
